Environmental Awareness

Cincinnati Country Day School is nestled in a pastoral setting. Since its founding in 1926, the 62-acre campus has played an import part in fulfilling CCDS’s mission. Beginning in the 1960s, environmental education became a more intentional part of the curriculum with organized nature walks, nature-oriented clubs, field trips, and beautification projects. Today, the Environmental Council celebrates and encourages the various ways students connect with living communities inside and out of the classroom. One goal of the Environmental Council is to create an Outdoor Education Area (ODEA) that will animate a core thread of environmental studies throughout the Pre-K through 12 curriculum. The concept of ODEA helped guide the designing of our Master Plan to better utilize the space on campus, foster a campus community, and unify the campus with common areas where students and colleagues can interact and collaborate.
