In 1967, computers were first introduced to our school community. Today, Cincinnati Country Day School is recognized as a leader in technology integration.
In 1996, Country Day was the first school in the nation to go 1:1 by providing every student in grades 5 through 12 _a laptop computer. In 2003 we transitioned to tablets, becoming one of the first schools in the world to take advantage of the power of digital ink. As the program progressed, what has not changed is our mission to use technology in pedagogically appropriate ways. Our curriculum drives the use of technology, not the other way around. Tablet PCs offer all the benefits of a standard laptop with the added functionality of a touch screen and a stylus. Writing is an integral part of the teaching and learning process. The stylus removes constraints, enabling users to combine text, images, video and ink. Tablet PCs enable productivity and inspire creativity.
Most schools require their students to "unplug" when they arrive. At Country Day, we are using the tools that successful leaders will need regardless of their future profession. At Country Day, students take ownership of their learning and having anytime, anywhere access to the world allows for authentic, engaging experiences both in the classroom and beyond.
Tablets have been integrated into the curriculum at every level and are used to create, synthesize, analyze, calculate, collaborate, and communicate. There are more than 700 working tablets on campus during a typical school day. Students leave Country Day with a tremendous technological skill set that allows them to think independently, analytically, and critically and prepares them well to enter and lead in an ever-changing global society.
