The banquet was started by longtime English teacher Sarah Hickman in 1950. The first chapter president was Lee Pattison, who served the community as a history teacher, head of the service club, student council advisor, and coach.

As one of only six chapters in the Cincinnati area, Cum Laude is an academic honor based exclusively on sophomore to senior weighted GPAs. Up to 20% of a graduating class can be inducted each year. Click here for more information about Cum Laude Society.
