Lecture and Q&A on Russian and Ukraine on Dec. 14

Dr. Willard Sunderland from the University of Cincinnati will host a lecture and Q&A session about the events that have unfolded and are still occurring in Russia and Ukraine on Wednesday, December 14 at 6:30 p.m.

Join us on December 14 for a presentation by Dr. Willard Sunderland

Professor Sunderland received his bachelor's degree in Russian studies from the University of Pennsylvania and his master's degree and doctorate in history from Indiana University. Since joining UC's history department in 1996, he has taught in the fields of Russia and the Soviet Union, modern Europe, and world history. His principal research interests are in the history of the Russian Empire in the modern period. In conducting his work, he has lived and traveled extensively in the Russian Federation and the other states of the former Soviet Union. "With the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, it is important to provide a space where members of the community can learn more and speak with an expert," said Josh Scott, Upper School history teacher. "In addition to providing information to the community about the conflict, we also want to combat misinformation and provide guidance by answering any questions that people might have. It is important for our students to understand current events, both abroad and domestically. Many of our students already hear about and see these events unfold via news outlets and social media platforms. As a community, it is important that we provide a safe space to learn about and discuss these events with knowledgeable sources and a historical perspective." Students and families from all divisions are invited to attend. The event will take place in the Upper School library. Refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be provided for guests.
