Lower School Spanish Teacher Writes Children’s Book

Lower School Spanish teacher Daniela Melo has a passion for languages. Yes, she teaches Spanish, but she is also the author of a children's book written in her native language, Portuguese. Her book titled "A Menina das Borboletas" or "The Girl of the Butterflies" tells the story of two caterpillars that turn into butterflies and befriend a little girl.

"My inspiration for this book was my daughter; every night, we make up stories together, and once she asked me to create one about her butterfly earrings, I created this story for her," says Melo.

Daniela also has also shared the book with our Lower School by reading it aloud to various classes. While the book is in Portuguese, she has translated it into English for our students.

"It is so great seeing the students I teach love and react to this book," says Melo. "Even though it is written in a language they don't know, I can share the story and another part of myself with them through translation."

Daniela says she has another children's book in the works, but it is still in progress.  You can purchase her book on Amazon.
