Student-Athletes Sign Letters of Intent: Swimming at Colgate, Rowing at Brown

February 4 was National Signing Day, and Country Day celebrated two incredible student-athletes. Delaney Gorman `26 and Alex Thompson `26 signed their letters of intent to continue their athletic career at the collegiate level.

Delaney is continuing her swimming career at Colgate University. She has been swimming for 11 years with the Cincinnati Marlins, her club team, and is a four-year member of the team at Country Day. Delaney holds the school record for the 100-meter fly and has qualified for state three times individually. “I will miss my fellow seniors. I have been swimming with them since freshman year, and swimming won’t be the same without them,” says Delaney. “My favorite memory is making two relays to State junior year with my classmates Greta [Varga `26], Zsofia [Varga `26], and Katherine [Connelly `26].”

Alex is continuing her rowing career at Brown University. While rowing is not an official sport at Country Day, Alex has represented the Nighthawks with her club team, the Cincinnati Junior Rowing Club. Brown University is a top 10 nationally ranked team, and it is an incredible accomplishment for Alex.

Family, friends, coaches, and teachers came to celebrate Alex and Delaney’s outstanding accomplishments.

“To Delaney and Alex, congratulations on this incredible accomplishment. Your commitment to your sport and your academic journey has led you to this milestone, and we have no doubt that you are well-prepared to excel at the next level,” says Dennis Coyle, athletic director. “The road ahead will bring challenges, but the lessons you have learned – both in and out of the water – will serve you well.”
