Counseling Program

The goal of the Cincinnati Country Day School College Counseling program is to help all students matriculate at colleges where they will prosper and from which they will emerge prepared to lead productive and satisfying lives.

A General overview of our program:

Freshman Year

  • College Athletic Recruiting and Financial Aid information night in September, open to all parents.
  • Optional individual student/parent meetings by appointment in May to help plan the student’s sophomore schedule and extracurricular goals for next years

Sophomore Year

  • College Athletic Recruiting and Financial Aid information night in September, open to all parents.
  • Students may want to attend the Suburban College Fair (hosted by CCDS in September).
  • All sophomores take the PSAT in October for practice.
  • Sophomore Parent/Student College Information Morning in February gives overview of college counseling program
  • Individual student/parent meetings in March and April to plan junior year curriculum, summer experiences, and begin to explore college options.

Junior Year

  • Junior Student/Parent Information Morning in early September to prepare for interaction with college visitors to our campus.
  • College Athletic Recruiting and Financial Aid information night in September, open to all parents.
  • Juniors meet with college representatives who visit campus in the fall.
  • Juniors attend the Suburban College Fair (hosted by CCDS in September).
  • All juniors take the PSAT in October.
  • Individual meetings between juniors and their counselors begin in January, followed by family meetings with college counselor in January and February. Formulate college list and plan summer experiences.
  • Junior College Information night for Students and Parents in January.
  • Junior College Counseling Classes twice per cycle in March and April. Creation of Resume and Junior Reflection. Interview practice.
  • Juniors visit colleges during spring break and summer months, making sure to interview.
  • Take a first round of standardized testing (SAT I, SAT II and/or ACT) during junior year. Juniors may want to take their first ACT in September.

Senior Year

    • Attend mandatory senior College Essay and Application Workshops in August.
    • Senior College Night in September for parents.
    • College Athletic Recruiting and Financial Aid information night held in September, open to all parent
    • Suburban College Fair (hosted by CCDS) in September.
    • Seniors meet with representatives of colleges visiting campus in the fall.
    • Seniors meet regularly with college counselor during the fall.
    • Senior College Counseling Classes twice a cycle throughout fall—work on essays and applications.
    • Senior College Visit Weekend—a three-day weekend in September or October to visit colleges and interview.
    • Complete applications before Winter Break.
