Families should pursue both need-based financial aid and merit scholarships as the plan for college costs. Most private colleges give financial aid to a majority of the freshman class, and families of all income levels should investigate applying for aid.

The American Legion Scholarship Fund There are several scholarships available through the American Legion. THE BIGSUN Organization offers an annual $500 scholarship to a deserving student athlete. All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of the sport they play. Cincinnati Queen City Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. will award two scholarships to African American females in the greater Cincinnati area that are currently high school seniors and plan to attend a college/university upon graduation. Scholarship winners will be chosen based on academic excellence, community service involvement, financial need, and a short interview for selected applicants. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5. Additional scholarships are available to high school seniors from the Lincoln Heights Community. Cincinnati Scholarship Foundation administers approximately eighty different scholarship funds and makes awards to as many students as possible. Many of the scholarship funds are considered "last dollars" to cover unmet need after all other state, federal and campus scholarship aid has been awarded. Coca-Cola Foundation The future of the Coca-Cola Foundation rests with the development of its scholars, who embody the kind of energy and vision that the history of the Coca-Cola bottlers and The Coca-Cola Company manifests. Each year the foundation awards $20000 to 50 National Scholars and $4000 to two hundred Regional Scholars from across the country. National Scholars receive their awards over a period of four years. Coca-Cola scholarships are awarded based on character, personal merit, and commitment. Daughters of the American Revolution - American History Scholarship (open to all students) The American History Scholarship is awarded to graduating high school students who will have a concentrated study of a minimum of 24 credit hours in American History and American Government. This award is intended to promote the study of our history among our finest students. U.S. Citizens residing abroad may apply through the Overseas Chapter. American History scholarship applications are first judged on the State level. Only State winners are eligible for judging on the Division level. Division level First and Second place winners are judged at the National level. ESA Foundation Scholarship awards numerous scholarships annually. Scholarship applications are submitted to the foundation's state counselor of the applicant's state of residence or directly to the scholarship director if there is no state counselor for that state. When the application has been determined to meet the foundation's criteria, it is forwarded to a member of the regional scholarship committee who double checks to see that the applicant meets the necessary criteria. The application is then sent to the scholarship coordinator responsible for the judging of the scholarship for which the student is applying.
