CCDSwim

CCDS enrolled students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 4 are invited to participate in FREE swimming classes led by CCDS swim instructor Shelly Salter. This class will provide a positive, developmentally appropriate aquatic learning experience and will be held at the Powell Crosley YMCA.

Classes are structured to accommodate beginner and intermediate abilities. Beginning swimmers will use a swim ‘n play trainer to build confidence in the water and allow the arm freedom to learn proper floating, paddling, and stroke techniques.

Learning Objectives:

  • age-appropriate water safety topics
  • Enter and exit water
  • Blow bubbles through mouth and nose
  • Bobbing
  • Submerge mouth, nose and eyes
  • Open eyes under water and retrieve submerged objects
  • Front and back glides/forward propulsion
  • Recover from a front glide to a vertical position
  • Back float and recover to a vertical position
  • Roll from front to back and back to front
  • Tread with arm, hand, and leg actions
  • Perform basic strokes using combined arm and leg actions
  • Student to teacher ratio is 8 to 1. In addition to the swim instructor, lifeguards will be on-deck watching throughout each session. A parent is required to provide transportation and stay on-site during swim instruction.
