International Fashion Show Highlights Country Day's Diversity

In late October, the International Club at Cincinnati Country Day School hosted the school's first international fashion show. Two students, Irene Wang '22 and Daniel Hong '22 set out to create the event to showcase the rich diversity of the school.
"Country Day is a global community," said Wang. "People may have lived here their whole lives but have different backgrounds and upbringings and we want to celebrate those differences."
The International Club‘s goal is to promote the connection between our Country Day community and the various global cultures while creating fun ways to celebrate the cultures represented throughout the school community. By creating the fashion show event, the club aimed to accomplish just that by inviting students, faculty, and staff to participate. As a result, the show included musical performances and a fashion show with over 25 participants.

"We wanted to host an event in which everyone in the school could participate,” explained Hong. “We want people to take part in honoring our diversity and how everyone fits into the bigger community.”
Rhoda Weston, Chinese teacher, and International Club advisor encouraged the students to take the reins on organizing and promoting this project.

"To put on this event, the students had to take ownership, learn leadership, and problem-solve," said Weston. “This is what Country Day is all about - preparing students for the real world through experiences like these.”
The show was a massive success, with many different cultures represented. For pictures of the event, click here.
