CCDX20 Boat Building
One of the many fabulous sessions by students and teachers during CCDX20 Week was Boat Building. Seventh and eighth grade students built a handmade canoe with guidance from the Camping & Education Foundation. Utilizing teamwork and their own bare hands, the students completed every task from making the frame to coating the paddles, using only the raw materials provided to them. Students learned the art of steam bending, lashing, and woodburning as well as how to use tools such as a spoke shave and wood plane. Beyond the build, students took a field trip to Otto Armleder or Grand Valley Preserve for lessons on boat safety and skills.

Head of School Tony Jaccaci and Middle School Teacher and Boat Building Project Leader Rick Schoeny test the students work in the pool at the Leonard Athletic Center.
