Kindergartners plant fifth Lifer tree

This year's 33 third graders have planted the fifth Lifer tree in Lifer Grove behind the Alumni House. They were joined by the fourth graders who planted the first Lifer tree in 2015.

This year's tree is a Shumard oak. Other trees planted so far are: Bur oak in 2015, Chinkapin oak in 2016, Shingle oak in 2017 and White oak in 2018. All trees are native to Ohio.

Cincinnati Country Day's Alumni Association donated this year's tree and a Lifer T-shirt for each kindergartner. Students will be able to watch their tree grow over the years, and when it's time to graduate, senior Lifers will have their photo taken near their Lifer tree.

Following the planting, kindergartners and their teachers enjoyed exploring the Will Thayer '05 Memorial Arboretum near the grove. The arboretum also is planted with only native Ohio trees.
